PeterOld postcard just sent to me by a friend.

Petr Pistelka

BRNO .. Jesuitska brana
Ceskoslovensku

Bit of a low down, side, gate view, so can't tell if castle or church .. any help ?

ipfloHi

well i haven't seen the postcard

although my travel guide says that Brno has a fortress in the city on a hill called spillberk, i don't think it is a castle or manor house on the postcard, because the czechian word for castle is hrad, zamek and for palace palac.

jesuitska is probably czechian for jesuitical and what brana means: i don't know, because it doesn't stands in an internet dictionary.

so i think it is is picture of a jesuitical church or monastery or school

KasteleinHi Peter,

Jesuitska brana is a name for the gate in Brno. The town has only one castle named Spilberk.
I haven't found some info about Brno about this gate, but still looking in my books about it.
The normal name for a castle in Czeck lanquage is what ipflo was writen. Brana is the Czeck word for gate.

Greetings

Albert
